My painting practice has often looked at the ideal home, in particular the modernist architecture that we see around us in the metropolis. Anthony Burgess’s ‘Clockwork Orange’ where the utopian vision of the real life Thamesmead estate goes awry or Ridley Scott’s dystopian ‘Bladerunner’ have both interested me. My early work looked at places of transit such as airports, shopping malls and train stations, communal architecture, often privately owned and scrupulously maintained, polished and cleaned to present an untouched, homogenised world, very much in opposition to our everyday, domestic environment. My work is distilled through endless amounts of photography, edited and simplified.
